The Miley Achievement Center was developed by the Clark County School District to house 270 behaviorally challenged students ranging in ages from 5 to 22 years of age. The architectural design challenge was to provide a safe, secure environment that promotes learning and appropriate behavior for students. Issues such as campus organization, circulation, security, sound attenuation and sustainable design affected the layout of the building.
The overall project included 7.95 acres of which 214,425 Square Feet consisted of asphalt and concrete. Nevada By Design provided the civil engineering for all on-site utilities, pavement designs, site grading and drainage, and off-site utility coordination. Unique to this facility was the need for three separate playground areas divided into elementary, middle and high school sections including two tennis courts and a running track.
This project was recognized by the American School Board Journal 2005, “Learning By Design” for its LEED-certified architectural and mechanical elements as well as innovative design use.
